September 5, 2020

On Sept 1 and 2, 2020, five Prairie North Co-op Agro team members attended Emergency Response Training for Anhydrous Ammonia in Strasbourg. The course was put on by Mark Coppicus, Agro Regulatory and Safety Manager and Darren Cameron, Agro Safety and Compliance Advisor from FCL. Prairie North Co-op participants were Larry Kohl, Curtis Mills, Shane Klepak, Greg Flasko and Richard Pierce. Prairie North Co-op is proud to now have an Emergency Response Team equipped with an Emergency Response Trailer capable of responding to anhydrous ammonia releases. Says Agro Division Manager, Larry Kohl, "this is just another example of how the Prairie North Co-op Agro Team is an industry leader. We are committed to investing in this type of cutting edge training for our people and when our investment gives us the ability to provide another service to our Ag communities and potentially save a life, well that is a win-win in my books".

Anhydrous ammonia (NH3) is a colorless, highly irritating gas with a pungent suffocating odour. It is classified as a Dangerous Good and according to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, exposure to anhydrous ammonia can irritate and burn the throat, lungs and eyes.
